RE-OPEN BADDOW CLOSE ALLEYWAY
Sign Our Petition to Make the School Run Safer
The closure of Baddow Close Alleyway in Woodford has created a serious safety concern for parents, children and staff at Ray Lodge Primary School.
For years, the alleyway provided a necessary pedestrian route for families travelling to and from the school. Its closure has forced parents and children onto a narrow stretch of Snakes Lane East, a busy main road that has only seen increased traffic following the closure of Broadmead Road Bridge.
In March, a young pupil was tragically struck by a vehicle outside the school. One child injured on the school run is one too many. The current arrangements are simply not safe and urgent action is needed.
I have visited the school, met with parents and spoken directly to the Headteachers. The message is clear: the current situation is unsafe and cannot continue.
Every parent should be confident that their child can travel to and from school safely. Yet families are now being funnelled onto an increasingly congested route at the busiest times of day, with children forced to navigate heavy traffic during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
That is why your local Conservative councillors and I are campaigning for urgent action.
We are calling on Labour-run Redbridge Council to re-open Baddow Close Alleyway immediately and introduce the necessary safety provisions and traffic-calming measures on Snakes Lane East.
This should not be a political issue. The Labour Council must put the safety of local children first.
