Save the Front Counter at Chingford Police Station

Save Chingford Police Station's Front Desk IDS Graphic

In July, the Labour Government announced plans to close the front desk at Chingford Police Station.

This decision was as a result of a Police Funding Settlement and Mayoral budget that resulted in a £260 million shortfall that has forced the proposed closure of approximately half of London’s police station front counters, one of which is Chingford’s.

In the last year in London approximately 50,000 crimes were reported inside a police station. The police “front counter” is also an easy access point for victims to obtain updates on current investigations of serious crimes they have experienced. They are a refuge for those in danger and a place for witnesses to come forward. If this goes ahead, our closest front counter will be Stratford.

We also have all seen what happened with Woodford police station, first the front counter was closed and then secondly Labour closed the whole thing down and sold it off.

Chingford Police Station Front Desk Closure Date Confirmed

Friday, 13 February, 2026
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the Chingford Police Station front desk will close on Saturday 28 February. I am deeply disappointed by the decision to proceed with the closure of the station’s front desk, particularly as Chingford is one of only five stations across London closing
