This week, I have been at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham this week. Politics only matters if it makes a difference to people’s lives.
That is why Kemi Badenoch’s The Right Way matters to families and businesses here in Chingford and Woodford Green.
It means backing our local shops, small businesses and high streets by keeping taxes down and getting unnecessary regulation out of their way.
It means taking crime and antisocial behaviour seriously, backing the police and making sure that when laws are broken there are consequences. People have a right to feel safe walking through their neighbourhood and using their local town centre.
It means recognising that families who work hard, pay their taxes, mortgages and bills should not continually be asked to pay more because government cannot control its own spending.
It means building the homes and infrastructure we need in the right places, while listening to the communities who actually live here.
It means better public services, not simply bigger budgets. People should judge government by whether they can see a GP, whether their children receive a good education, whether their streets are safe and whether their money is spent properly.
Above all, it means a government that does the important things well and gives individuals, families and businesses the freedom to get on with their lives.
For too long Conservatives lost sight of too many of these basic principles and we paid the price.
Kemi is putting those principles back at the heart of the Conservative Party.
