This week, I met Transport Minister, Simon Lightwood, to make my case for a government funded full rebuild of Broadmead Road Bridge.
For far too long now, the ongoing closure of Broadmead Road Bridge since July 2023 has caused significant disruption to local residents and businesses. With the Government’s Structures Fund now open, this is a critical opportunity to secure the investment desperately needed to finally reopen the bridge.
With structural defects, only a full rebuild can safely restore order to the 15,000 daily journeys affected by the closure.
Following my meeting, I am now looking for support from other local MPs, Redbridge Council, GLA Members and Transport for London (TfL) to come together and emphasise the wider support and necessity for the government funding to re-open the bridge.
The Government has the funding, now we must secure it.
I will continue to press the Government to ensure that Broadmead Road Bridge receives the investment it deserves and that residents’ concerns across Chingford and Woodford Green are heard.
