I was delighted to host the first Chingford and Woodford Green Sixth Form Debating Competition this morning at the North Chingford Methodist Church, with teams from every school across the constituency.
It was a fantastic morning that brought together schools from across the constituency for a lively and engaging debate.
Debating motions on political participation, the benefits and concerns surrounding social media, the role and vitality of NATO, voting age and Assisted Dying, I was thoroughly impressed by the strong and persuasive arguments put forward by each team, as well as the concise and confident interventions made in opposition.
Thank you to all the students for taking part, and to the teachers for organising and supporting their school teams.
I would also like to congratulate the four teams that have made it through to next week’s final.
I look forward to the final in the House of Commons next Thursday, 27th November, during UK Parliament Week, where we will be joined by our judge, British journalist and presenter Camilla Tominey.
