I would like to pay tribute to the independent shops, cafés, and restaurants across Chingford and Woodford Green that serve our community on Small Business Saturday 6th December. Our local businesses’ hard work and resilience keep our high streets vibrant, support local jobs, and contribute to the charm and character of Chingford and Woodford Green.
However, the Labour-run Waltham Forest and Redbridge Councils have made it increasingly difficult for local businesses to thrive. Increased parking charges, rising commercial rents, attempted pedestrianisation schemes, and a weak approach to tackling violent shoplifting have all had a detrimental impact on local businesses and the footfall on our high streets.
I therefore encourage everyone who can to shop local this Christmas and beyond, to help protect our high streets and support our local businesses which are at the heart of our community.
Today serves as an important reminder of the positive impact local businesses have on our community and I want to thank every small business owner whose dedication strengthens our community.
