I would like to congratulate the Waltham Forest Schools' District Under-13 Football Team, along with their manager, Matt, and assistant manager, David, on their outstanding victory in the English Schools' Football Association Champions Trophy.
Since September, this team, made up of players from 14 schools across the London Borough of Waltham Forest, has shown determination, teamwork and skill. Their dedication saw them progress through challenging group and knockout stages against teams from across the country, culminating in a superb 1–0 victory over Doncaster Schools in the final in Worcester.
This is a historic achievement. It marks the first time since 1968 that a team representing our borough has won a national title, and the players, coaches, schools and families should all be immensely proud of what they have accomplished.
I am delighted to be welcoming the team to the Houses of Parliament in July to congratulate them in person on this remarkable success and on bringing football glory back to Waltham Forest. They are an inspiration to young people across our borough, and I wish them every success in the future.
