I’m deeply disappointed that the Labour Government is planning to close the front counter at Chingford Police Station, leaving residents in Chingford and Woodford Green without any police station open to the public. If you agree we need to keep Chingford’s front counter open, please sign and share our association petition now: https://www.cwgca.org/POLICESTATION
Since the announcement, I’ve been in direct contact with the Borough Commander and his team to make sure this won’t impact local policing. But I know how vital face-to-face policing is, especially for the most vulnerable in our community.
That’s why I’ve urged the police to look at alternatives like virtual access points and have stressed the importance of keeping neighbourhood policing strong, with no cuts to local officer numbers or time spent in our area.
This is the wrong move at the wrong time. Last year alone, around 50,000 crimes were reported in person at police stations across London. Front counters are not just for reporting crime, they’re a lifeline for victims and a place of safety.
If this closure goes ahead, our nearest front counter will be in Stratford. And we’ve seen this before, just like with Woodford Police Station, where Labour first closed the counter.
