Today I was honoured to host the semi-final and final of my first annual Sixth Form Debating Competition in the Houses of Parliament during UK Parliament Week with judge, British presenter and journalist, Camilla Tominey.
I would like to congratulate Heathcote, Woodbridge, Chingford Foundation and Woodford County High School for Girls, who took on two challenging semi-final motions debating the impact of Government policy on Northern Ireland & The Troubles on veterans, and whether the NHS remains viable for the 21st century.
Woodbridge and Heathcote made it through to the final, delivering brilliant speeches after just 20 minutes of preparation on a surprise motion about the US 28-point Peace Plan for Ukraine.
Congratulations to this year’s winners, Woodbridge High School, who impressed our judge, British journalist and presenter Camilla Tominey, with two well-founded and articulate debates.
UK Parliament Week is an annual national campaign designed to inspire people to get involved in democracy and learn more about how Parliament works. It was fantastic to give sixth formers across Chingford & Woodford Green the chance to debate in the very heart of British politics during this important week.
